Top 7 Ottawa Stores Selling Keto-Friendly Products

Before I get into the nitty gritty, I want to point out the obvious that the majority of the ketogenic diet is made up of fresh foods that you can find at any supermarket or grocery store: vegetables, meat & fish, seeds, select fruits. Dairy products like cream and butter are also readily available–the trick is to find the ideal ones with less chemicals or additives. As for the other more special or unique products that allow you to hack your way through a keto dessert recipe or experiment with flavors and textures, I’ve got you covered. This is a non exhaustive list of my favourite local Ottawa shops where gather all of my supplies, and a few others that I have yet to try. I would LOVE your input on other hidden gems!

Top 7 Ottawa Stores Selling Keto-Friendly Products

1. Rainbow Foods, Richmond & Greenbank

Rainbow Foods is a store that offers natural and organic foods, supplements, and plenty of healthy options. I shop at the Richmond road location, but I am certain they both carry the same items. Call ahead to be sure.

2. Kardish Health Centres (9 locations in Ottawa)

The one in Orleans is huge so I imaging they have all of the standard products, but avoid the one in Westgate mall if you are looking for anything other than coconut oil  or flour from the list below unfortunately.

– Erythritol
– Organic Extra Virgin Unrefined Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil (Nutiva)
– Coconut Butter/Manna (Nutiva)
– Organic Almond Butter (Nuts to You)
– Coconut Flour (Bob’s Red Mill)
– Almond Flour (Bob’s Red Mill)

3. Whole Foods, Landsdowne

Whole Foods is amazing. Not only are the majority of their products organic, but they are also big supporters of local farmers. I have only ever been to this store once, and I only picked up fresh veggies, but they have a huge selection of health food products and many of the other keto-food described in this post. As I frequent them more, I will be sure to let you all know, and please do share your success stories in the comments below!

4. Herb & Spice Shop, Wellington West & Centretown

Herb & Spice Shop is a great place to get more than just herbs and fresh veggies. I’ve only been into their Westboro/Hintonburg shop a handful of times quickly for dried spices, I am excited to go back in and explore.

– dried herbs & spices
– fresh veggies
– nutritional supplements
– natural care products
– essential oils

5. The Unrefined Oil, Glebe & Kanata and Emulsify, Wellington West

Vegan Avocado Mayo | Keto Recipe

Technically you can find olive oil almost anywhere, but extra virgin organic olive oil that doesn’t have other chemicals in it or taste like dirt are a harder find. As a person who doesn’t like olive oil, these have made me a convert and I will eat it straight on a salad and drizzle on cheese happily. Emulsify has some of the best vinegars around,  the amazing thick kind, so they are definitely worth the splurge. My heart however remains with Olive That!, an olive oil & vinegar shop from my hometown of Whitby that deliver right to your door, since I can get large bottles (750ml) of my favourite oils.

– Extra Virgin Olive Oils (Regular and Flavour Infused)
– Vinegars (Regular and Flavour Infused)

6. Metro (many Ottawa locations) and IGA (handful of Gatineau locations)

Cream of Mushroom Soup | Keto Recipe

I know for sure that these products are available at the Island Park location OR at the Freeman IGA store, but I am sure if you look in the organic section you will find it at others too.

– 1L carton 35% whipping cream (Lanctancia) [Metro only]
– Unsweetened Almond Milk (Earth’s Own)
– Chia Seeds (Prana)
– 40% Crème Fraiche (Liberté) [see photo]
– Flaxseed Meal
– Hemp Hearts
– Almond Flour (Bob’s Red Mill)
– cheapest butter in town, especially when it goes on sale for under 3$ a brick! [IGA only]

7. Superstore (many Ottawa locations)

I know for sure that these products are available at the Kirkwood/Richmond & Baseline/Merivale locations, but I am sure if you look in the organic section you will find it at others too.

– Grass-Fed Butter (Kerry Gold)
– Organic Extra Virgin Unrefined Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil (Nutiva)
– Ghee, often found in the Indian Foods section
– Organic Almond Butter (Nuts to You)

Other Ottawa Health Food Stores

I have not frequented these ones, but I figured I would share their existence since not everyone lives in central Ottawa and these might be closer to you, and I am sure they have many of the keto foods we look for. For sure, let me know in the comments so I can update the list!

– The Granary (Carleton Place)
– Ottawa Organics <– they deliver locally-grown organic veggies, organic dairy products, and other organic groceries straight to your door!
